Roddy Ricch (real name Rodrick Wayne Moore) was born in the Compton area of California on October 22, 1998. His birth sign is Libra and he holds an American nationality. He went to Carson Senior High School and Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets. He played basketball in High School and had compared his style to that of Michael Jordan.

His rap journey began at the age of 8 but he started recording at the age of 16 after he got some musical equipment. He spent some of his growing-up years in Atlanta where he was a member of the Park Village Crompton Crips.

Roddy Ricch recorded his first mixtape “ Feed Tha Streets” which was released in 2017. The mixtape grabbed the attention of other rappers including Nipsey Hussle who later became his very good friend until his death. In 2018, he and producer London on da Track collaborated on the hit single, Die Young ‘which was partly a tribute to late rapper XXXTentacion who died in a high-speed chase. Die young got over 80 million views on YouTube and 120 million streams on Spotify. He continued to gain a wider audience when he featured on Championship by Meek Mills and gained further attention with the release of his second mixtape, Feed Tha Streets II in 2018.


Thereafter, he featured on Nipsey Hussle’s track, Racks in The Middle in February 2019. The song earned him a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance. He also featured in the chart-topping DJ Mustard’s album, Perfect Ten in 2019 which received a nomination for Best Rap/song Performance at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

Roddy Ricch had already got a massive fan base before dropping his first studio album in December 2019.

The album titled, Please excuse Me for Being Antisocial steadily climbed the chart until it peaked at Number one on the Billboard 200 and became the longest-running number-one debut rap album in the US since 2003. Roddy Ricch’s achievement in such a short period of time is nothing but phenomenal. He has earned some awards such as Album of the Year at The 2020 BET awards, Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance and Album and Song of the year in 2020 by Apple music. He got eight nominations at the 2020 American Music Awards, and six nominations at the 63rd Grammy Awards.


Meanwhile, he has named Kendrick Lamar, Speaker Knockerz, Young Thug, Future and Gucci Mane, as his musical muses. He has been applauded for his unique style which is like a mix of different sounds from several generations of rap.


In February 2021, there was a report of a shootout where Roddy Ricch and others were shooting a music video in Atlanta, Georgia but luckily, no life was lost in the incident.

Roddy Ricch is romantically involved with his long time girlfriend, Allie Kay. Their relationship has been on for over four years now and has been kept low key. They welcomed a son in April 2020 and his name has not been disclosed to the public.
