JJ Watt and his brothers have joined the list of NFL's most coveted players and the internet can't get enough of them. One thing we already know is that in the world of sport, nobody stays a champion forever. It is the same thing when we take a look at the National Football League (NFL) where the likes of Ray Lewis of Baltimore Ravens, Michael Strahan of New York Giants, John Elway of Denver Broncos and so many others who made names for themselves before JJ Watt came into the picture.

Although the Wisconsin-born athlete at a young age played basketball, baseball, track and field, he was more passionate about hockey and football. Which he gave up in his teenage years due to financial difficulties and a brewing tight schedules for the multi-talented young lad.


Career


It is noteworthy to mention that Justin James Watt, JJ as he is famously known, began his career while in Pewaukee High School. At a tender stage, he was already showing his brilliance and diligence in several sports which he contested as the frontrunner for his school in external competitions. As a matter of fact, he emerged victorious in most of the competitions he participated in. He was named the MVP and Woodland Conference Player of the Year in his senior year. He was also included in the First-team All-State, All-County, All-Area and All-Conference for winning the Shot put WIAA Division II Championship in 2007. Watt was excelling at a fast pace and this made him become one of the rookies to look out for in the coming seasons. Moved by his growth, hard work and uniqueness, some NFL analyst tagged him a "Golden Boy" as he went ahead to win a few titles and individual accolades which include; Rottie Lott Trophy in 2010, named AP and Sports Person, selected for the All-Big Ten First-Team. He will go on to break and set records such as registering 42 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, nine passes defended and one interception for 15 yards all in the same season.

This will see him matriculate in Central Michigan University where he received a scholarship offer and began his professional career as an American Football Defensive End with the Houston Texans. There he signed and agreed to a four-year contract, a deal worth $11.24 million in July 2011. Ever since, the thirty-one-years-old has been named in Rookie Team of the Year in his first season, named the AFC Defensive Player of the month for September and December in 2012, voted Texans team Most Valuable Player in 2012, named in 2014 NFL Pro-Bowl where he doubled as captain. With the aforementioned laurels to his name, JJ Watt established himself as one of the most successful Defensive Ends in the NFL.

It is one thing to be a superstar in a sport and has siblings who are excelling in other fields. But, the bliss that comes with having family members in the same sport but different teams is what the Watt brothers; Justin, Derek and Trent all ply their trade in the same league. It should be known that JJ is the oldest and he plays as a Defensive End for Houston Texans. On the other hand, Derek the middle brother plays as a Fullback for the Pittsburgh Steelers with his younger brother, Trent Jordan also known as T.J playing as a Linebacker for the same team. 

Over time, there has been a rivalry between the brothers on the pitch as elder brother J.J of team Houston Texans gets to be pitched against his brothers' team from time-to-time. Although the siblings are mainly known for their bromance off the pitch, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Justin James is head over heel his brothers in achievements. It is also public knowledge that the Watt brothers are products of the University of Wisconsin where their College career kickstarted. Even though the brothers are known for their philanthropic activities off the field, in the same vein, T.J is known as the controversial one. Having been fined $20,054 for an offensive tackle on fellow NFL player, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

Many people know JJ Watt's wife, Kealia Ohia as an American Soccer Player who plays for the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The 28-years-old has excelled in various stages of her career, where she represented the United States in Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 and Senior National Team Levels. In 2016, the then, Houston Dash superstar revealed she was in a relationship with the famous Watt brother, Justin James. Their relationship took a better turn in 2019 when they got engaged and it culminated in a blissful marriage in early 2020.
